We had a fun summer but finally it was time to head back to school. Madison is in 2nd Grade and Austin is starting 4th. After such a rough year last year, I am excited for Austin to have a better year. These guys look so cute in their uniforms!
On August 29, 2012 our lives took a major fork in the road when our son, Austin, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia or ALL. This is the story of his battle. We share this in the hopes that some day he will read it and know how much he is loved and understand the journey that he has taken. I invite you to leave any comments or thoughts that you might have to show love and support to Austin.

Back to PCMC for Chemo
After 3 months of staying home, we made the trek to Primary's once again. Austin was checked in, weighed and measured. He weighed 42.5 kg--down 1.5 kg from last month. He was not feeling good and just laid down on the table. He has had some problems with nausea and vomiting once in awhile. This seems to be more when he hasn't eaten in awhile. So since he has to be fasting for his sedation his stomach was really bothering him. (We later found out his glucose was 54 so no wonder he felt so bad!) Poor kid.

Austin's port was accessed without any problem and his labs were drawn. His ANC was 1800, Platelets 209, and Hct 37.7(!!!) These are all great so we headed to the sedation room for his lumbar puncture. Everything went smoothly and he was soon sitting up and asking for fruit loops. Finally the smile appeared and he was soon laughing with the nurses.

Disneyland, the beach, and Angels Baseball
Summer fun wouldn't be complete without a trip to Disneyland, the beach, and an Angels Baseball game. We loaded all 6 kids into 2 cars and made the 6 hour drive to Anaheim. The kids are good travelers, other than Austin getting carsick. He gets carsick often since being on chemo. We are well equipped with puke bags so we don't let it slow us down. We got to the hotel and headed for the pool.

Summer Fun
Austin has felt great this last month. He has had lots of energy. We are enjoying all the summer fun in St George. Such a relief since last Summer really sucked because Austin didn't feel good much of the time. He and Madison went to Camp Hobe, a camp in Tooele for kids with cancer and their siblings. I worried all week because they were so far away, but they had so much fun and can't wait to go again next year. Ausitn's checkup and monthly labs went well. His ANC was 1700, Hct 35.6, Plts 250 and weight 44 Kg. He faithfully takes his nightly pills without complaint. Did I mention how much I love this kid?
